Depth does the trick for Cardinals in shutout

COEUR d'ALENE – With temperatures at 98 degrees at kickoff on Monday, North Idaho College men's soccer coach Brad Williams determined if nothing else, his depth was going to get tested against visiting Wenatchee Valley College.

But, in a good way.

Drew Hansen, a redshirt sophomore from Coeur d'Alene High, capped the scoring with a goal on an assist from Dillon Bingham in the 65th minute for the Cardinals, who beat the Knights 4-0 in nonconference play at Eisenwinter Field.

"With just playing on Saturday, and the heat today, we wanted to get the squad rotating a little more today," Williams said. "We've been clear that we're going to change the lineup sometimes with a lot of quality players. Sometimes, with only a day in between, we're going to have to rely more on that and that's what we did."

Hansen was injured early in the 2023 season and missed all of the 2024 season with a torn right ACL.

"He got the ball at the top of the box and had a nice strike on the ball," Williams said. "He's shown an ability to score since he's been here and really is starting to fit into what we're doing and showing he can score again."
