Cardinals fight back, but fall to Clackamas in battle of top-10 teams
OREGON CITY, Ore. — Seth Martin, a freshman from Post Falls High, won by major decision at 184 pounds to trim North Idaho College's deficit to eight points, but the Clackamas Cougars, ranked fourth in the NJCAA, notched a win at 197 pounds to clinch a 24-19 dual victory against the sixth-ranked Cardinals on Friday night at Clackamas Community College.
NIC trailed 21-3, then got a pin from Dylan Block at 174 to make it 21-9 before Martin's win gave the Cardinals another four points. Sophomore Ray Griffin closed out the dual with a pin at 285 for NIC, which beat Clackamas 28-21 on Nov. 21 at Christianson Gymnasium. The schools also faced off at the NJCAA Coaches Duals last Saturday in Miami, Okla., with the Cougars beating the Cardinals 28-9.
NIC hosts Big Bend Community College of Moses Lake, Wash., next Friday. The Vikings were tied for 10th in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll, released on Dec. 18.
