Bio

Coach Louie Vargas was named Interim Head Coach of North Idaho College women's basketball in March of 2026 after serving as assistant for four seasons. Vargas was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. Growing up, his life was centered on faith in God and family (Ohana). Early on, it was evident he developed two interests – basketball and education. He excelled in his education by attending and graduating high school from Kamehameha Schools and Whitworth University with a degree in Business Management.

After an extensive basketball career, Vargas desired to give back to his community and the sport, therefore, he transitioned his gifts and talents from playing, to coaching basketball. Vargas has coached 25 years in the youth through high school levels and at the collegiate level for four years.

He is married to Jenn Vargas and has three children Kea, Hokulea, and Kainalu. Vargas believes that leading by example is the key to success at home, on the basketball court, and in life.
