Cardinal rally falls short

TISHOMINGO, Okla. – Summer Faleafa, a sophomore from Auckland, New Zealand, scored a team-high 21 points for North Idaho College, which fell to Murray State College 66-63 in a nonconference game at Beames Fieldhouse on Sunday.

Karsyn Freeman, a freshman from Adna, Wash., scored 17 points and sophomore Chloe Collin from Brampton, Canada, added 12 points for NIC (0-4), which trailed 26-13 after the first quarter and rallied to within a point late in the fourth quarter.

"Karsyn, Chloe and Summer really stepped up after halftime," NIC coach Nathan Covill said. "We started to get some stops and went into a zone and it kind of slowed them down and we were able to do some things out of it. We had a chance to get a stop and got down three and we didn't have any timeouts, and that didn't help. We had a lot of growth today and credit to (NIC assistant coach) Louie (Vargas). It was his scout and credit to him with how he handled things. I was really happy to see us fight back and give ourselves a chance to win."

NIC hosts Bellevue on Friday at 7 p.m.

Emily Steven scored 22 points for Murray State (3-1).
