Cardinals drop two at opening tourney

HENDERSON, Nev. — The Cardinals dropped to 0-4 on the season with a pair of losses in the Coyote Kickoff Classic at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park on Saturday. 

NIC fell to Yavapai of Prescott, Ariz., 10-6 in its first game on Saturday, then lost 12-6 to Southern Nevada. 

Details from the opener were not available.

Against Southern Nevada, freshman Chloe Hearrell hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. 

Southern Nevada scored seven runs in the bottom of the second and seven in the third to pull away. 

NIC returns to action against El Paso and Arizona Western next Friday in Yuma, Ariz.
