McNelly ties for sixth as Cardinal men finish ninth in NJCAA tourney

NEWTON, Kan. — North Idaho College freshman Eli McNelly finished tied for sixth, leading the Cardinal men to a ninth-place finish in the NJCAA Tournament at Sand Creek Station on Friday. 

McNelly, who led the tourney after shooting a 6-under-par 66 in Tuesday's first round, posted a 77 in Friday's round to finish with a 289, six strokes back of Charlie Box of Hutchinson (Kan.), who finished at 283.

Midland (Texas) won the NJCAA Championship with a 284-286-288-300—1,158, good for a seven-shot victory. NIC finished 40 shots back in its final tournament as the school opted to cut the men's and women's golf programs effective at the end of the school year.
