Cards fall to USE on the road

PRICE, Utah — Sophomore Deng Diew hit a jumper with 12:04 to cut the deficit to 61-57 for the Cardinals, who were unable to fight back from a 17-point hole in a Scenic West Athletic Conference loss at the Bunnell-Dmirtrich Athletic Center. 

Deng finished with a team-high 18 points and 13 rebounds for NIC (11-9, 1-4 SWAC), which outrebounded Utah State-Eastern (11-6, 2-3) 40-37. 

Vaughn Weems, who leads the NJCAA in scoring at 28.3 points per game, was held to 10 points for NIC. 

Mark Huber and Mark Reichner scored 16 points each for Utah State-Eastern. 

NIC travels to Colorado Northwestern on Thursday.
