The North Idaho College Cardinal softball team faced NCAA Division II Humboldt State University, for two preseason matchups on Thursday, April 1st and Friday, April 2nd. The Cards fell short in both games with scores of 4-13 and 1-19; respectively. In the first game, the Cardinals rallied in the 5th inning; scoring three runs to fight back. Maddie Hull was perfect at the plate, going two-for-two with two singles, one walk, and an RBI. Addison Ribordy hit a double, going one-for-three with an RBI. Taryn Vanderwiel hit a single and a double, going two-for-three at the plate, and earning an RBI.
In the second game, the Cardinal offense fell silent. A solo homerun rocketed to left-center by Aleksya Batoon to lead off the fifth inning, was the Cardinals’ only run. Addison Ribordy hit two singles, going two-for-two. Maddie Hull hit a double, while Hope Shimatsu and Taya Escalante both had singles. Unfortunately, the Cardinals could not string the hits together and ended up with six runners left on base.
NIC will be back in action on Thursday, April 8th with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. against the Community Colleges of Spokane, home on Memorial Field.
