12/8/19

North Idaho College wrapped up the weekend Saturday Dec. 7 by beating former Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Snow College 80-73 at the Wright PT/Physician’s Immediate Care Invitational at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Five Cardinals scored in double figures as NIC was the only team to go undefeated in the round-robin event. Sophomore Yusuf Mohamed led the charge with 16 points off the bench while sophomores Nate Pryor and Phillip Malatare each added 15, James Carlson 14 and Joey Naccarato finishing with a double-double 13 points and 11 rebounds.

In Thursday’s tournament opener, the Cardinals edged former SWAC rival College of Southern Idaho 72-70 after coming back from a 36-27 halftime deficit. Mohamed poured in a team-high 22 points while grabbing 12 rebounds and Pryor, in his first game of the year, scored 21 points while handing out five assists. Sophomore Emmit Taylor III added 13 points hitting four 3-pointers.

On Friday, NWAC foe Yakima Valley College was no match for NIC in a 118-65 rout. Five Cards scored in double-figures led by sophomores Malatare and Jaden Dewar. Malatare filled the stat sheet with a game-high 22 points, zero assists, five rebounds and four steals while Dewar tossed in 20 points while corralling 13 rebounds. Others in double figures included Taylor III 16, sophomore Marcus Austin 14, and sophomore Ismael Valdez 10.

“It was a great team effort all weekend long”, said NIC Men’s Basketball Head Coach Corey Symons. “To come to CSI and beat two national Jucos was huge.”
