WRESTLING: Three NIC wrestlers place first at the Mike Clock Open


The North Idaho College wrestling team attended the Mike Clock Open Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.

The Cardinals had three first place finishers at the tournament. In the 125-weight class true freshman, Isaac Lopez, went 4-0 and defeated Zachary Mauras in his finals match by a pin. Lopez is now 8-0 and has won two tournaments this season. Sal Silva (149), a redshirt freshman, went 4-0 at the tournament as well. Silva battled his way through his matches with one major decision, one tech, and two pins; winning all of his matches with bonus points. Sophomore Jake Swift (157) finished first in his weight class and went 4-0 with two pins and one tech. Swift is now 8-0 and has won two tournaments this season.

The Cardinals also had another finalist at the Mike Clock Open, sophomore Hunter Gregerson (197) placed 4th; he went 3-1 with two pins.

The NIC wrestling team will be hosting a Tri-Meet with Clackamas Community College and Northwest College (Wyoming) on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 23 at 12:00 p.m. the Cards will host Corban University, Umpqua Community College, Highline Community College, and Simon Fraser University for the Cardinal Duals.
