MEN’S GOLF: Two NIC men’s golf teams take 1st, 2nd at Lilac Collegiate; Holmes’ top spot

The Cardinals swept the Lilac Collegiate hosted at Liberty Lake Golf Club in Liberty Lake, Wash, this week. The field consisted of 10 teams, half of which were four-year schools and half two-year schools. The Cardinals sent two teams to the event:  an "A" and a "B" team.

The "A" Team won the event by six shots over the NIC men’s "B" team and the "B" team finished two strokes ahead of third-place Whitworth.

Not only did the teams go one and two, but freshman Bridger Holmes won the event individually. Holmes birdied six of his last eight holes to force a playoff, which he later won with par on the first playoff hole.

“What Bridger did on the back 9 of his final round was pretty impressive," said Head Golf Coach Russell Grove. “Coming off a stretch like that, there was no doubt in my mind he was going to win the playoff. Bridger led us last week and winning this week will give him a lot of confidence going forward this fall. All in all it was a great week for us, we still have room to improve but for both of our teams to go first and second place and beat some pretty big-name schools, just goes to show the quality and the depth of our team this year."

Cardinals Tyler Jones (142), Jared Smith (144), Lincoln Hirrlinger (145), Austin Mitchell (146), and Dawson Strobel (146) also all finished inside the Top-10 individually.
