MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals win in undefeated showdown


North Idaho College remains unbeaten in Northwest Athletic Conference action with an 89-71 victory over Wenatchee Valley College on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in the Christianson Gymnasium. Both teams entered the game with identical 15-1, 3-0 records.

The Cardinals took a 41-35 lead at the half by shooting 54% from the field as sophomores Yusuf Mohammad and Christian Guess pounded the interior of the Knights’ defense; scoring 10 and 9 points respectively. Wenatchee Valley freshman Austin Hatch kept the Knights close, hitting four 3-pointers for 14 points, but was held scoreless in the final 20 minutes as the Cardinal defense stiffened. Sophomore Emmitt Taylor III came off the bench with 12 points, hitting three 3-pointers in the final frame as Cardinal reserves outscored the Knights’ bench 37-17. Besides Taylor III, three others scored in double figures: Guess with 17, Mohamed 13, and sophomore James Carlson with 11. The Cards also dominated the boards—outrebounding the Knights 50-31 as Carlson and Mohamed led the way with nine apiece.
