SOFTBALL: NIC takes two from Yakima Valley College


On Tuesday, May 7th, the Cardinals swept the Yakima Valley Yaks in 10 innings with a score of 9-0 in game one and 16-0 in game two. In game one, Madi Mott earned the win for the Cardinals and Andrea Hoey threw the last two innings, closing out the shutout. Bri Hecker went 2-2 with a single, a homerun and 2 RBI’s. Ashlyn Winn and Madi Mott also had homeruns for the Cardinals. Bailey Cavanagh got on base three times with two hit by pitches, and one double, having two RBI’s.

Grace Ferres threw a shutout for the Cardinals in game two with 7 strikeouts in 5 innings. The Cardinals offense exploded late in the game to pull away from the 2-0 lead they had over the Yaks, scoring 14 runs in the 4th inning.   Ashlyn Winn went 3-3 with two homeruns, one double and 6 RBI’s. Madi Mott went 2-3 with a single, one homerun, and one hit by pitch. Bri Hecker went 2-3 with a single, a homerun and 2 RBI’s.

The Cardinals will play their last conference games on Friday, May 10th, at Yakima Valley at 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
