SOFTBALL: Cards Take 3 of 4 in NWAC Weekend Opener

The NIC Softball team began their NWAC eight game homestand in successful fashion last weekend at Post Falls High School, winning 3 of 4 game against Columbia Basin College and Wenatchee Valley College. Sophomore ace Madi Mott picked up where she left off last season, pitching a perfect game as the Cards defeated CBC, 11-0. Mott is the reigning NWAC Player of the Year and NWAC East Pitcher of the Year.  The Cardinals completed the sweep of CBC with another run-rule decision in the nightcap, 11-2.

Mott was nearly as dominant in the opener against Wenatchee Valley College on Sunday, throwing a one-hitter in the Cards 11-2 victory. In the finale of the set, the Cards spotted the WVC Knights a 16-5 lead before mounting a comeback that fell just short with a 16-14 defeat.

Sophomore Ashlyn Winn was spectacular at the plate over the weekend, hitting 6 home-runs in the four games.

The Cards continue the home stand with a doubleheader against Walla Walla CC today at 2:00. The Warriors come into the contest 2-2 in the NWAC East, and 7-5 overall, after being swept by Treasure Valley on the road on Saturday.

The Big Bend CC Vikings come to town on Wednesday (March 27) to complete the homestand. The Vikings are currently on top of the standings with a 2-0 record, and 8-2 overall.
