WRESTLING: Cards in 6th Place After Day One


The Cards got off to a fast start on the first day of the NJCAA National Wrestling Championship tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa, winning 6 of their first 7 matches. The aggressive start helped the Cards land in 6th place after the quarterfinal rounds, heading into Day 2. Five Cardinal wrestlers advanced to the second day, and will earn All-American honors.

Esco Walker (125), Bryce Parson (149), Cooper McCullough (157), Hunter Gregerson (197) and Connor Sullivan all won 4 matches to remain alive in the consolation bracket. Izaiah Duran (165) and Nicholas Hara (133) earned points for the Cards with opening round wins but bowed out with two losses.

The Championship semi-finals and consolation quarterfinals begin at 8:30am PST on Saturday, March 2. The remaining Cardinal wrestlers can only advance as high as 3rd place through the consolation bracket.

Region 18 rival Clackamas CC leads the tournament team scores with 112, followed by Northeast Oklahoma 92, Iowa Central 85.5, Northwest Kansas 74.5, Ellsworth College 56, and NIC 54.
