WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Lady Cardinals lose in overtime

The North Idaho College women’s basketball team proved they are one of the top teams in the NWAC before falling in overtime to Umpqua Community College at home on Sunday, December 16.  A hard-fought battle which appeared to be heading towards an upset victory for the Lady Cardinals was sent into overtime by a series of unexpected events.  Overtime belonged to Umpqua as they outscored NIC 17-6 and won 83-72.  Umpqua, ranked #2 in the NWAC, improved to 8-0 while NIC, ranked #6 in the NWAC, fell to 5-2.

Freshman Sydnie Peterson led NIC with 20 points hitting 6 three-pointers.  Freshman Halle Eborall produced 12 points, dished out 7 assists, and pulled down 6 rebounds while spear-heading NIC’s tenacious defense.  Freshman Alex Carlton added 12 points.  Freshman Anna Schrade nearly missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds while leading NIC with 3 steals.

Action continues at Christianson Gymnasium on the North Idaho College campus with the Umpqua Riverhawks taking on the Bellevue Bulldogs on Monday, December 17 at 3:30 PM followed by the NIC Lady Cardinals taking on South Puget Sound Community College at 5:30 PM.
