MEN'S BASKETBALL: Victory secures post-season berth

03/01/2018

3rd-ranked North Idaho College, facing elimination from post-season play, responded in convincing fashion by blowing out Wenatchee Valley CC 100-69 Wednesday night at Christianson Gymnasium. With the victory, the Cardinals (21-8, 11-5) finished the regular season in a second-place tie with Spokane. A tiebreaker formula gave the 2nd seed to the Sasquatch from the Eastern Division to the upcoming NWAC Tournament while the Cards secured the 3rd seed.

The five Cardinals honored on Sophomore night played a major role in the victory. Tyler Brimhall led the charge. The University of Idaho transfer poured in 28 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and handed out 4 assists. Jalen Burkett produced a double-double, 16 points and 11 rebounds while Aushanti Potts-Woods came off the bench for 15 points and 3 assists. Freshman RayQuan Evans continued his outstanding season with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.

“The Sophomores would not be denied,” said Head Coach Corey Symons. “They didn’t want their NIC careers to end tonight,” adding, “they knew there’s more work to be done.”

North Idaho College will learn their first-round opponent this Sunday at 3pm on the NWAC selection show.  https://www.youtube.com/c/NWACSportsNetwork
