MEN’S BASKETBALL: Loss at Walla Walla puts Cards in must win situation


6th-ranked North Idaho College could not overcome the outside shooting of Walla Walla in a 81-72 loss Saturday night on the 3rd-ranked Warrior’s home court. With the victory, Walla Walla (22-6, 12-3), the defending NWAC Champions, claim the East Division title. The Warriors hit 19-49 shots from beyond the arc (39%) to outscore the Cardinals (20-8, 10-5) 57-6.

Sophomore Jalen Burkett had a fine shooting performance, going 9 of 14 from the field in leading the Cards with 25 points while Freshman RayQuan Evans added a double-double, 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Warrior Freshman Damen Thacker led all scorers with 28 points.

The Cardinals, tied for second with Spokane, need a home-court victory this Wednesday night (Regular-season finale) over Wenatchee Valley (9-6) to secure a playoff spot. Game-time 8pm.
