Cardinal Wrestling set to begin second semester

The Cardinal Wrestling Team is set to return to the mat on January 13th against Eastern Oregon University in Missoula, Montana, after a busy end to the Fall Semester. The Cards finished the semester with a dual record of 5-5, ending with a victory over NAIA’s Warner Pacific University. The North Idaho squad struggled to find their rhythm at times during the semester and suffered a few set-backs, including the loss of returning All-American, Trey Meyer to a season-ending ACL Injury.

In addition to a busy dual schedule, the Cardinal Wrestling Team also stayed busy within the community in December, beginning with their participation in the Jingle Books program. This year in Jingle Books, more than 30,000 books were donated to schools throughout the community and were delivered by the NIC Wrestling Team. Following Jingle Books, the Cardinal wrestlers also hosted the 47th Annual Tri-State Classic Wrestling Tournament. To date, this was the largest tournament in Tri-State’s tenure, with more than 600 competitors and nearly 70 teams from Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Idaho. To accommodate these record numbers, the Student Health and Wellness Recreation Center opened it’s doors, allowing mats to be set up in their gymnasium and spectators to view the action from the second floor track and from the multi-purpose room. This, in combination with the facilities in Christianson Gym, made for one of the most successful tournaments in the tournament’s history.

With the busy first semester behind them, the Cards will look to narrow their focus with only 6 duals and only 1 tournament left before the NJCAA West District Tournament on February 11th. Be sure to come watch as the Cardinal Wrestling Team honors their sophomores in their final home dual of the season against Division II’s Simon Fraser University on January 25th at 7:00 pm.
