WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Cardinals' playoffs finished by PK

11/01/2017

North Idaho College went to Bellingham, Wash. to take on the North Region's 2nd seed, Whatcom CC Orcas. It was a very tough battle by two even teams that saw action at either end of the field. Both teams had several opportunities to score in regulation, but excellent goal keeping get the teams off the scoreboard. Kinzie Hunter was outstanding in goal for the Cardinals. On two occasions in the second half she came off her line and sacrificed her body in big collisions to save a 1v1 with the Orcas center forward.

The game was decided in the second minute of the first overtime when a WCC player took a shot from just outside the penalty area. The shot was hit hard and struck an NIC defender, standing near the top of the penalty area, the arm. The referee called a foul and award WCC a penalty kick which they scored to win the game.

"It was a disheartening way to lose because both teams were competing hard and it wasn't an intentional hand ball," commented Head Coach Dan Hogan.

NIC finishes 10-4 in league play and 12-7 overall despite losing 3 players to ACL injuries and not returning a single player on the front line. It was a successful season for these women who overcame these obstacles and still made it to the playoffs.
