SOFTBALL: NIC wins 3 out of 4

NIC Softball swept Columbia Basin College Friday, March 31st at Post Falls High School. In game one of the series, Kayla Moore earned her fifth win from the circle. In the first inning, freshman Kalyna Korok hit a double, sophomore Ana Raynor got a single to knock her in, and sophomore Nikki Miller scored Raynor with a double, putting the Cardinals ahead 2-0. Sophomore Jamie Yurick went 3-3 on the day and scored twice. The Cardinal lefty slappers Emily Aspden, and McKenzie Schaller both went 2-4 on the day. Freshman Megan Carver came up big, going 2-4 on the day with 4 RBI’s. The Cardinals earned the win with a 8 run rule in the 5th inning posting a final score of 11-3.

In game two of the series, the Cardinals fell behind 4-0 in the first inning. The second inning saw NIC rally back with a lead off walk by Nikki Miller, a Jamie Yurick single, and another walk to Megan Carver before Emily Aspden singled to score a run. The rally continued when McKenzie Schaller singled with 1 RBI. Ana Raynor doubled scoring Aspden and Schaller. Kayla Curtan singled, scoring Raynor to put the Cardinals ahead 6-4. The Cardinals continued pushing runs across and earned the 14-6 victory.  

On Saturday, the Cardinals faced the Warriors of Walla Walla Community College. In game one the Lady Cards fell behind 6-0 early in the game. In the 7th inning the Cardinals rallied for 3 runs, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Warriors and earn the victory. 

In game two the Cardinals fell behind again, this time 7-0. In the 5th inning the bats got hot and NIC scored 5 runs to put them behind WWCC 6-7. Freshman pitcher Audrey Seipert entered the circle in the third inning and kept the Warriors off balance for the rest of the game. In the bottom of the 7th inning NIC tied the game with a solo home run by freshman Kayla Curtan. Freshman Kennedy Anderson got on base when an error was committed by the defense. With one out, and a runner on first base, freshman Megan Carver hit a game winning 2-run home run to post a score of 9-7. Seipert earned her 2nd win of the season.

The Cardinals are back in action this Saturday April, 8, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. against Yakima Valley College, in Yakima, Washington.
