Top-Ranked Cardinals Men's Basketball win NWAC opener
Guard Sam Dowd led five players in double-figures with a game-high 27 points, 18 in the second-half, as the Cards beat Yakima Valley College,103-94 Saturday afternoon at Rolly Williams Court. It was the first-ever Northwest Athletic Conference victory for North Idaho College after previously competing in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. Dowd hit key free throws down the stretch, going 10 of 13 from the charity stripe. The sophomore point guard, who leads the conference in assists, dished out 5 assists to help fuel the offensive output.
Freshman forward Marcus Golder also came to life in the final 20 minutes, scoring 17 of his 25 points after the break. Like Dowd, Golder was also 10 of 13 from the free throw line. Freshman wing Niko Bevens, who leads the NWAC in shooting 3’s at 55%, finished with 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting from beyond the arc. The Cardinals also had help inside as sophomore Zaequan Satterthwaite turned in a double-double, with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Adam Gotelli continued his strong play with 12 points and five assists.
NIC, now 13-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, will face Columbia Basin Wednesday night at 8:00PM in Pasco, Washington. Check out the action online at Nicathletics.com.
