Lady Cards Basketball lose NWAC Opener
The NIC Lady Cardinals lost to the NWAC Eastern Region leading Yakima Valley College Yaks (11-3, 2-0) 86-74 on Saturday, January 7th at Christianson Gym. Lake City High School graduates Whitney Meier and Cierra Dvorak had excellent games with 23 and 21 points respectively. The duo combined to shoot 45% from the floor and 91% from the free throw line. Dvorak also pulled down 7 rebounds, dished out 6 assists, and had 4 steals. Freshman Gia Sorn posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Cardinals won the battle statistically except for shooting percentage. Yakima shot 47.8% for the game while NIC shot 30.5%.
With the loss NIC is 7-5 overall and 0-1 to start NWAC Eastern Region play. The Lady Cardinals travel to Pasco, WA to face Columbia Basin College on Wednesday, January 11. Columbia Basin (9-4, 1-1) fell to Yakima 101-87 in their NWAC opener on January 4. Tip-off is at 6:00 PM with the men's game following. Both games can be viewed at http://www.nicathletics.com/.
