Cards open CDA INN-vitational with win


The Cardinals opened the 9th annual CDA INN-vitational with an entertaining defeat of out-manned Grays Harbor CC, 111-59, in the finale of the 8 team tournament. In earlier games Elite Prep defeated Blue Mountain 71-55. Lethbridge outlasted Wenatchee Valley 77-75 in overtime, and Medicine Hat remained undefeated with a victory over Fairchild Air Force Base.

Sophomore forward Ziggy Saitherwaite continued his strong play with 26 points and 13 rebounds. In a total team effort from every Cardinal that touched the hardwood, Markus Golder scored 23 points and Niko Bevens added 15. Sophomore point guard Sam Dowd dished out 8 assists and now leads the NWAC, averaging 7 assists per game. Off the bench Drew Sheridan had a season high 12 rebounds and 8 points, and sophomore guard Daylen Erickson added 14 points.

In day two of the tournament today, December 29, the Cardinals (10-1) will face Medicine Hat College in the nightcap at 7:30pm. The four-year college from Alberta,Canada comes in with an unblemished record at 8-0. The other semifinal at 5:30pm matches Elite Prep versus another Canadian college, Lethbridge College.

In the consolation afternoon brackets, Fairchild AFB faces Wenatchee Valley College at 1:30pm, and Blue Mountain CC takes on Grays Harbor at 3:30pm.
