Cardinals Win San Jose City College Championship
Tournament MVP Sam Dowd led four players in double-figures with 16 points as the Cardinals beat Fresno City College, 95-90, in the SJCC Classic Championship game. Freshman Niko Bevens added 19 points, including a long-range 4-point play late in the second half as North Idaho battled back from a 15-point second-half deficit to complete the come from behind victory. Sophomore post Jordan Henderson continued his strong play with 15 points, 10 coming from the charity stripe in the second half. Freshman Marcus Golder, also named to the All-Tournament team, poured in all of his 12 points in the second half after being saddled with two early fouls. Fresno City College, ranked #6 in the California JUCO polls, led 66-51 with 12 minutes left before the Cardinals began their comeback.
The tightly officiated contest saw three players foul out for both teams, and several finished with 4 fouls. Fresno City fell to 8-4 with the loss. Earlier this season FCC gave California top ranked City College of San Francisco its only loss of the season.
“The team really battled adversity for the second straight evening, coming from double-digit deficits”, said Head Coach Corey Symons. “Our team is really coming together.”
