Derrick Thompson enters his second season as head men’s and women’s golf coach and his fourth year with the program, having served two years as an assistant coach. Both the men’s and women’s teams participated in the national tournament last season; the men placed 22nd and the women finished 11th in the nation, the highest finish in the history of the NIC women’s program. The women’s golf team also earned Academic All-American status and Kayla Lloyd earned individual Academic All-American honors.

Following the 2010-2011 season, three NIC golfers went on to play at four-year schools, including Kris Brett, Jeremy Jensen, and Emily Thorud.

Thompson is passionate about the game of golf and has worked in the industry for eight years. He has been a golf professional since 2006 and worked at the nationally-acclaimed Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course as an assistant professional from 2006 to 2007. He is currently entering his fifth year at Avondale Golf and Tennis Club, currently as a PGA professional. Thompson is also a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and a voting member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Golfweek Coaches Poll.

Email: Randy_Boswell@nic.edu
Office: GYM-109

Randy Boswell enters his sixth year as a coach for both the men’s and women’s golf teams. Although he played baseball and not golf in college, his passion for the sport helped position him as the head golf coach for the past five years. Boswell has served as the North Idaho College athletics trainer since 1993, a position he still holds.

Boswell said he is excited to see golf come back as a sport at NIC after a 30 year hiatus. Each year the teams have improved; for the last two years both teams qualified for the national tournament. In 2010, the women placed 13th and the men placed 17th.

He and his wife Jennifer live in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area and are the proud parents of 17-year-old daughter Brayden and 13-year-old son Ethan.
